Historic Setting for Staff Outing

14 June 2012

Springfords chose the picturesque setting of Winton House in Pencaitland, East Lothian for this year's staff outing.

Winton House dates back to the 14th Century when it was built by the Setons.  The house has witnessed may colourful historical events, being linked to William the Conqueror, Mary Queen of Scots, the Jacobites and Bonnie Prince Charlie, amongst others.  The furnishings and artwork came from all over Europe and the Turkish Empire and Springfords were allowed to fully enjoy what Winton House has to offer.

The afternoon kicked off with a historical tour of the house, followed by a Treasure Hunt based on the history of the house, its gardens and its past occupants.  Teams then took part in an afternoon of games, including puff billiards, charades, croquet and cricket.  There was also time to enjoy the house and gardens, browsing through the books in the library, relaxing in the Drawing Room, enjoying a coffee in the Cabinet Room and exploring the Walled Garden.

We were all amazed at how much freedom we were given to explore the house and were struck by the real affection all the staff have for it - nothing was too much trouble.

A superb afternoon was rounded off with a barbeque, quiz and prize-giving.

Thanks to all the staff at Winton, especially Kerrie McCabe, General Manager and Julie Britee, Sales and Events Manager who put so much effort into the event - we'll definitely be back to haunt you!
