Caledonian Challenge - Saturday 16 June 2012
This year once again saw Springfords employees successfully complete the Caledonian Challenge - the aim of which is to walk 54 miles through the Scottish Highlands in under 24 hours - a gruelling physical and mental feat.
Despite the damp weather and being under attack from midges along the way, Sue Bird and Jennifer Smith from Springfords, and Stephen Rowntree, Claire Scott, Darren Lees and John Bell from Carbon Financial Planners managed to do this in just over 18 hours, which is a fantastic achievement and saw them come in 17th out of 149 teams who completed the event.
They were raising funds for The Scottish Community Foundation, a hugely worthwhile organisation that distributes grants and funds to local charities throughout the length and breadth of Scotland.
This could not have been achieved without the efforts of Sue's Dad, Graham, Jennifer's husband Graham and Gill Dalgleish who supported the team over the 18 hours. Also, thanks to the support of friends, family and many Springfords clients, to date they have raised £3,678….and look set to break the £4k barrier.
Race For Life - Sunday 17 June 2012
Hazel Mackay, our Financial Controller, ran the 5k Race for Life this year at Holyrood Park, together with her friends from the "Ladies that Lunch" group (pictured here). The Ladies that Lunch are a group of Mums that got together when their boys were at nursery. The boys are all at school now but the Mums like to stay in touch with regular wine and dine sessions!
The girls have managed to raise a magnificent £983 and hope to break the £1,000 barrier with the support of family and friends. Hazel said "It was a brilliant atmosphere, but very emotional reading all the messages the runners had on their backs in memory or celebration of loved ones who have been affected by cancer. We all agreed that the next race we do will be the 10k next year as we are keen to keep up the running".
