It’s amazing! Springfords Charity Committee ended 2012 having raised a staggering £2,960 in the year. As well as having great fun in fundraising during the year, staff are also encouraged to make suggestions to the Charity Committee as to how the money raised should be divvied up. Lots of local charities benefit and we thought you would be interested to know who these are:
Bright Sparks Playgroup – Jane Carmichael from our Admin Group read an article in the local paper about this playgroup for children with special needs, which is threatened with closure. The playgroup is based in Bonnyrigg, Midlothian .
Child Reach – Colin Soutar from our Business Group suggested we sponsor his 18 year old daughter Amanda Soutar (pictured here on left of pic), who is looking for sponsorship to climb Kilimanjaro – the money raised by Amanda will go to Child Reach, a charity which works in partnership with communities in the developing world to help children access education, improve health and child protection. Visit the Child Reach website at http://www.childreach.org.uk/.
Danderhall After School Club – Hazel Mackay, our Financial Controller is involved with Danderhall After School Club – our donation will buy much needed uniforms for the team.
Lothians Special Olympics Team – This was nominated by Kerrie Jones from our Tax Department whose niece, Sophie, will represent The Lothians in the swimming pool at this year’s Special Olympics in Bath.
West Lothian Aspergers Group – Julie Leckie, one of our Associates nominated this new charity which is trying to get off the ground to provide support and a confidential forum for families affected by aspergers.
Newbattle High School Appeal – Lorraine Paul from our Admin Group nominated this – Newbattle High School has a sister school in Africa, Khanya Lesedi – the money donated will go towards providing a special sound system, which can be charged up from the single power socket available, for the school’s dance group.
Coeliac Edinburgh – a staff member is a coeliac and nominated this charity.
Crisis – we funded a Christmas Dinner for 5 homeless people in a safe and warm environment to include health checks and advice.
Dogs Trust – Lots of members of staff are dog lovers so this was a popular choice – Dave Lochhead from our Tax Department nominated this one.
Downs Syndrome Scotland – nominated by Marius Briedenhann from our Business Group.
Somerville Foundation - nominated by Associate, Findlay Paul – the foundation assists those born with heart conditions, providing practical and emotional support.

2013 fund raising kicked off in March with “The Great Springfords Bake-Off” for Comic Relief. We raised over £250 from various events, including dressing in red (see picture below). The bake-off was won by Linda Beveridge from our Business Group whose carrot cake impressed the judges – this will now become an annual event in our fund raising calendar.
