........but it's great fun! So say Hazel Mackay and Jane Carmichael from our Admin Group who teamed up with three friends Lynn McNeill, Eileen McHale and Lorraine Nicholson-Bennett to take part in the Tough Mudder event at Dalkeith Country Park on 24 August which supports the Help for Heroes charity.
The team (pictured here during the event) proved that you don't have to be young to be fit. With an average age on the day of 48, they ran the 12 mile course and endured ice-water, 10,000 volts of electricity, 12 foot walls, underground tunnels, a 30 foot plunge into cold water plus tons and tons of mud!
The hard core obstacle course is designed by Special Forces to test your all round strength, stamina, determination and camaraderie - so the girls were delighted to complete the course and are pictured below after receiving their coveted Tough Mudder headbands and of course a welcome ice cold pint of cider.
Before setting off on the gruelling challenge the girls took the Tough Mudder pledge .........
.........and the team agreed that "this sums up the experience of Tough Mudder - if you stick to the pledge and do some training anyone can do it".
