No, not that BBC, but Brainbox Bean Counter! Always looking for new ways to raise money, Springfords Employee Charity Committee organised a quiz based on the BBC television series Mastermind. Every Tuesday lunchtime over a six week period, Springfords staff battled it out answering questions on specialist subjects, ranging from Salvador Dali to Harry Potter and from Dr Who to The Emperor Elagabalus. Then came the difficult part – a round of general knowledge questions.
The final, held on 14 November, was between Dave Lochhead (corporate tax group) Anne Turner (admin group) JJ Maley (private tax group) and Kirsty Ashworth (audit group) answering questions on Blackadder, Billy Elliot, Lady Jane Grey and Shrek respectively. The worthy winner of the inaugural competition was JJ Maley and it is hoped he will defend his title in 2014.
A magnificent total of £366.40 was raised from a variety of fundraising activities held over the course of the competition and this has helped to boost the 2013 fund raising pot.
Springfords also took part in the 2013 Children In Need fundraising effort by holding a dress down day and a guess how long it took to make a Pudsey cake competition – raising £150.
Springfords Employee Charity Committee have raised a total of £2,830 in 2013 and will meet in the next few months to distribute funds to charities nominated by employees and to plan our 2014 programme.
