Brenda is Dancing On Ice

09 April 2014

Brenda was watching the Dancing on Ice semi final on TV when details of a competition to see the live final in London came up.  She tells us:

"I entered the online competition which took me about 2 minutes as I had my tablet on in front of me, then forgot about it.

So when I got a phone call on the following Monday while in the office, I put the woman off thinking it was a sales call, saying I was at work and couldn’t take the call. She called back a couple of minutes later to say that if she didn’t get my details today she would go on to the next winner - I couldn't believe it.

I had won two train tickets to London, two nights bed and breakfast and tickets to the Live Final of Dancing on Ice!

My husband and I travelled down on Saturday morning, leaving us Saturday afternoon to visit the South Bank and go on the London Eye.

On Sunday afternoon we headed out to Elstree Studios for the show. We were to be there for 4pm. The VIPs had their own tent but we did see some of the celebrities as they arrived. Heidi Range, from the Sugababes, Andi Peters, Kerry Katona, Biggins, Lauren Goodger as well as the skating celebrities Joe Pasquale, Todd Carty, David Seaman, Gareth Gates and Kyran Bracken to name a few.

The ice rink was smaller than I thought it would be, probably about a third of the size of Murrayfield.

Torville & Dean skating the Bolero was pre recorded as were the judges on the ice along with Phillip Schofield and Christina Bleakley. It was non-stop action for 4 hours with pre recorded interviews with the contestants slotted in between set changes and ice sweeps. When the live show was being broadcast it was all go as well.

My favourite parts were Torville & Dean performing the Bolero for the last time and Hayley Tamaddon performing my favourite ice dance of the entire 9 series to Jai Ho, although I do think that Ray Quinn the eventual winner had a slight edge on skating, he was fearless!

It was a prize that money couldn’t buy and we had such a great time - I now have absolute faith that TV competitions are for real!!"
