As many of our readers will know, Fiona Donaldson, our Private Client Tax Partner, is Chair of “Lunch with an Old Bag”, the fabulously glamorous annual fundraising lunch in aid of The Prince’s Trust, and also sits on the Prince’s Trust Scotland Advisory Council.
In December, Fiona was thrilled to be invited to a fabulous Gala Dinner at Buckingham Palace, attended by HRHs The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, to celebrate the launch of The Prince’s Trust’s 40th Anniversary Year.
Fiona tells us that it was a gorgeously glittering and star-studded event. As well as meeting The Duchess of Cornwall, and rubbing shoulders with Ant and Dec, she was more than a little excited to be introduced to George Clooney (who is, we are reliably informed, exceptionally charming), and to Pierce Brosnan (ditto, but a bit taller). And when the entertainment was announced, and Stevie Wonder took to the stage, the evening was officially sensational!
“It was an incredible evening”, Fiona told us. “The glamorous champagne reception, meeting gorgeous George, dinner in the Palace Ballroom, fabulous food and wine, saying hello to a favourite Bond, and a true megastar performing on the stage. And a moving speech from David Oyelowo, who started his path to becoming an actor with a grant from The Prince’s Trust at age 18, reminded us what the celebration was all about.”
Founded in 1976, The Prince’s Trust has supported more than 825,000 young people across the UK in its first 40 years, helping them back into education, to find jobs, or start their own businesses. Springfords are very proud to sponsor Lunch with an Old Bag, and Fiona and the LWOB Committee have already started making plans for LWOB 2016. Having raised £530K at the lunch last year (and over £1.5 million over the past three years), they hope to make this year’s lunch even more spectacular, in honour of the Trust’s 40th Anniversary.
