Hard to believe, but between them these lovely ladies have clocked up an amazing 100 years plus of service with Springfords. All four joined Springfords when it was Springford Wilkie Murdoch and based on Bonnyrigg High Street.
Linda Johnstone, our Payroll Manager, is the longest serving member of staff, having joined on 1 August 1991. Linda had previously worked as a self-employed payroll administrator when she met Keith Murdoch. When Keith joined Springford Wilkie Murdoch as a Partner in 1991 he persuaded Linda to go with him and the rest is history.
Linda was closely followed by Jane Carmichael, our Office Manager. Jane applied for the job in October 1991 and her CV was picked out by Keith Murdoch who had worked with Jane at KPMG in Edinburgh – they had also both played mixed hockey together for the firm – yes, the accountancy world is a small one!
Springford Wilkie Murdoch were expanding, and needed a qualified auditor. Julie Leckie was moving back to the Central Belt from Aberdeen and joined the company in June 1992. She made an instant impression on her first day when she accidently set fire to the carpet.
An increase in the admin workload meant an Office Junior was needed. Jane’s niece Kerrie Connor (now Kerrie Jones) was working with Millar & Bryce and wanted a position closer to home. Kerrie was interviewed by the partners and got the job – it was a bit daunting for Kerrie at first having her aunty as her boss, but initial worries were unfounded and 25 years later they are still working together.
In 1993 Springford Wilkie Murdoch became Springfords and moved to our current premises in Eskbank. The girls have seen many changes over the years and are looking forward to the next 100 years!
