Poorhouse Past

Many visitors to our offices in Eskbank comment on what a lovely building Dundas House is, but what a lot of you may not know is that it was built in 1848-49 as the Dalkeith poorhouse for the 12 parishes of Borthwick, Carrington, Cockpen, Cranston, Crichton, Dalkeith, Fala, Lasswade, Liberton, Newbattle, Newton and Temple.  The architect who designed Westfield Park was William Lambie Moffat and it was built to accommodate 120 inmates, including 8…(more)

Fiona and Dave Climb to Success

To mark the 125th birthday of the Forth Railway Bridge a limited number of guided tours to the top were offered for sale by Network Rail as part of their Million Makers initiative.....   ........and recently two intrepid Springfords bods were lucky enough to venture to the top, helping the Network Rail Million Makers team raise the fantastic sum of £31,250 to support The Prince’s Trust.           (more)
